Collaboration With Woodlands SCC 2019
-
Using a psychoeducation approach, my group facilitated a 3-day workshop to modify the students’ impulse control. We planned out specific lesson sessions for each day, targeting different aspects of impulse control: Hyperactivity & Impulsivity. Utilising my facilitation and interpersonal skills, I was able to better conduct the workshop, build trust and establish positive relationships with the students

Woodlands Care Corner has programmes that are designed to promote holistic development for school-age children physically, socially, emotionally, and intellectually. We collaborated with Woodlands Care Corner to help them with controlling their impulses through fun and engaging activities
-
Behavioural modification skills were used to tackle the target behaviour: Impulse control. Such examples were the coming up of behavioural principles like rules and the token economy system
-
The workshop was effective in allowing the students to at least reduce their disruptive behaviours. This can be seen as the students really internalised the ground rules and were able to remember all of the rules whenever they were called upon. In addition, the students reminded each other whenever one of them was on the verge of breaking the rules.

HEB-ASHRAM Halfway House Family Carnival Day 2018

-
Facilitated a game booth to engage about 200 families with children of all ages to learn the importance of family bonding.
-
Helped to plan a booth to help promote the importance of family bonding through a fun and simple game as well as better understand the situations of the families that attended.
-
Individuals who came were able to demonstrate teamwork and trust during the game of ball throwing and gain better understanding of different ways to improve family bonding.
-
Allowed me to gain confidence and worked on my communication skills to better engage with individuals of different ages and ethnicity backgrounds
One Child One Skill 2018

-
Joined a befriender programme to visit and support a child with autism to learn social and play skills, where the programme lasted from August 2018 to December 2018.
-
We carried out different lesson plans per session, varying from physical activities like badminton to concentration activities like drawing, working with the parents to customise the programme for the child.
-
The child was able to pick up more social skills when interacting with us and his knowledge on different play activities has also expanded.
-
Opened my eyes on the needs of special needs’ children and made me explore different facilitation methods for children with autism.
Beyond Social Services Door Knocking 2018

-
Went around rental HDB flats of low-income families to conduct a survey which would help to collect data to run programmes for the children of those families.
-
During the door knocking, we surveyed the situation and asked them about what the residents think could be improved on around their estate.
-
The families were able to give their feedback and in-return, there was an after event that was carried out for the children of the families.
-
Enabled me to have a better understanding of what social stratification is and how I can help as an individual to improve the lives of the children from low-income families
Chaoyang School 2018
-
Conducted a life skills training workshop to a group of eight elementary students with special needs such as ADHD and autism at Chaoyang School.
-
Taught the students how to fold origami frogs, hearts and fishes and facilitated play a game of "egg race" where they had to balance a pingpong ball on a spoon and carry it to the other side of the room.
-
The students were able to train their eye-hand coordination skills, find their balance as well as improve their social interactions when playing with us.
-
Learnt more about children with special needs and how to cater the programmes for them if they are not willing to participate in the activities.
